The meeting was called to order by the president at 1:30 pm.

The idea of applying for 501c(3) was discussed.  Brainstorming about the pros and cons and even considering of consulting a corporate lawyer were presented.  Marie Hanna recommended Dorothy Lew, executive director of the Pan-Asian Alliance to do a presentation on how to apply for 501c(3) and discuss its advantages and disadvantages.  It was agreed by the majority to invite Dorothy Lew. It was also agreed that on February 6, 2010 the board will meet and also attend the presentation.

Cultural Center Fund
Ester Havey, 2009 past president reported that the cultural building fund which is deposited at Hughes Credit Union will expire soon.  As of the present it only generates 0.95 interest which means it only earns $72.13 every 3 months.  It was unanimously approved to go ahead and let the deposit roll over for another 6 months.

Constitution

The president pointed out some ideas to amend the constitution that may include the following:

1. Increase the presidential term to 2 years.

2. The reason why the term “Entertainment Committee” was

removed for the word “entertainment” may be the cause of
disapproval in case if the club attempts to apply for 501c(3).

The president implied that it is very important that each one should study the constitution first.  And he added that he expects each one to give or contribute ideas in the next meeting. The sample of the replacement of the term into “Cultural Awareness Committee” was also distributed.

Other business:
Re: Sound system in Tom Trajano’s house.  
Dennis Maduli will pick up the sound system to be used for Acquaintance Party.

Incentives:
Manol Oswald suggested that what if the club requires each club member to recruit and for 5 people recruited the recruiter doesn’t need to pay his or her membership. She also encourage Dennis to call the Mabuhay president, Carol Ypulong to help in the membership campaign considering that she was FASCOT past president.  Ester Havey also asked members what are the reasons of why we join the club.  Membership campaign is the continuing challenge of FASCOT.  Every FASCOT member needs to reach out and recruit more members and the former members.  Our assistant-secretary Joel Jorolan being new in Tucson needs help.  Everyone has to get involved in membership campaign.  Ad hoc committee to act as liaison for FASCOT were appointed by the president.  The following (PRO) Public Relation Officers for 2010 are: Susan Liang and Manol Oswald-Northwest, Tetchie Garcia, East side, and Anching Gutang for the West side.

Susan Liang also pointed out that the FASCOT website has to be updated.  The website represents the image of FASCOT.  All the old newsletters are still there. It has to be improved.  Dennis Maduli will contact Paul Alcordo, the webmaster.
